There is a proverb that goes, “Prosperity is what gives us friends, but adversity is what proves them.” Nothing could be more appropriate in describing the situation of insurance brokers, who had to prove individuals to the clients they serve in the face of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Nothing could be more appropriate in describing the situation of insurance brokers.
The pandemic presented an opportunity for Cowan Insurance Group’s customers to develop a deeper appreciation for the function of a broker in the provision of counsel and direction brought about by the pandemic. The organization has been honored as one of Insurance Business Canada’s 5-Star Brokerages – Ontario 2022 in recognition of its commitment to providing excellent customer service, which was singled out as a particular point of distinction.

Janet Peddigrew, president of Cowan Insurance Group, said, “I feel really proud of how our team stepped up to give that level of assistance and direction to help our clients control but anyway.” “I consider myself extremely proud of how our team acted up to give that level of assistance and direction to help our clients manage though.” I believe that the appreciation of the responsibility of a broker was even more reinforced by the setting that was present there.
The Cowan Insurance Group became a member of the technology-oriented risk management consortium TechAssure in the previous year. Cowan is able to interact with other members and share best practices in risk management since it is a member of the organization. Additionally, Cowan is able to tap into the group’s resources and capabilities in order to provide improved service to the innovative sectors. Additionally, it enables Cowan’s clients to gain access to resources such as risk management tools, benchmarking, and analytics, which can assist them in mitigating risk and making decisions that are more informed.
Not only was the TechAssure consortium formed in the midst of the pandemic, but the decision to include Cowan in it was also made with the clientele of Cowan’s Toronto office in mind. According to the executive director of TechAssure, Garrett Droege, Toronto is “one of the most important technology hubs in North America.” This makes Cowan’s participation in TechAssure particularly noteworthy.
“We are a family firm that has been independently owned in Canada for the past 95 years, which is fairly extraordinary,” Peddigrew said in an interview with Insurance Business. And the culture of our team is centered on the delivery of services, a concern for our customers, and giving something back to the community. I believe that message carried over throughout [the pandemic].
