Richard Turner, the current president of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI), will step down on September 21 after serving his full four-year term. The candidacy committee of the International Union of Marine Insurance has proposed Frédéric Denèfle of GAREX as an applying for the position.

Since 2018, Denèfle, who has worked in the insurance industry for a total of 34 years, has been a member of the executive committee of the IUMI. In 2013, the former employee of Allianz was promoted to the position of managing director of maritime war insurance financing at GAREX (Groupement d’Assurance de Risques EXceptionnels), which is located in Paris.
Kosuke Hashimoto, now the vice chair of the IUMI executive committee and the general manager of marine insurance at Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance, has been recommended for the position of vice president, which was recently formed.
At its two sessions scheduled for the following month, the IUMI Council will deliberate on the candidates, and an official decision will be made once the voting is complete.
Turner, who formerly served as the chief executive of RSA Luxembourg, is now serving as the worldwide head of naval for the managing general underwriter Victor Insurance. After sitting on the IUMI executive committee between the years 2011 and 2015, he was chosen president of the organization in 2018.
