Richard Turner, the current president of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI), will complete his four-year term on September 21, following which he will step down from his position. The institution of the IUMI has proposed Frédéric Denèfle of GAREX as a contender for the position.
Since 2018, Denèfle, who has worked in the financial industry for a total of 34 years, has been a member of the executive committee of the IUMI. In 2013, the former employee of Allianz was promoted to the position of managing director of maritime war insurance coverage at GAREX (Groupement d’Assurance de Risques EXceptionnels), which is located in Paris.
Kosuke Hashimoto, now the vice chair of the IUMI executive committee and the chief operating officer of offshore writing at Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance, has been recommended for the position of vice president, which was recently formed.
At its two sessions scheduled for the coming season, the IUMI Council will deliberate on the possibilities, and an official decision will be made once the voting is complete.
Turner, who formerly served as the chief executive of RSA Luxembourg, is now serving as the worldwide head of nautical for the supervising general underwriter Victor Insurance. After sitting on the IUMI executive committee from 2011 to 2015, he was voted to become the organization’s president in 2018.
